post-op with dr. fischer [Jul. 1st, 2011|12:30 pm]

hi all --

i posted a few months back with questions about having top surgery with dr. fischer without stopping t injections. (iirc she's one of the few/only surgeons in the states who insists that you do so.)

as it turns out, i 1) decided to have surgery with her and 2) had it just this week, on the 28th! there's not much to report at this point, but i wanted to let the community know that i didn't change my dosage at all prior to surgery and everything seems to have gone quite well thus far.

i'm still very tired, so i'll try to make a more detailed update after my drains are taken out (which should be tuesday), but in the meantime please feel free to ask questions if you'd like.

top surgery, not sure which route to go [Jun. 23rd, 2011|09:38 pm]

Hi,

I went through the tags, but didn't find someone asking this question, hope it's alright to post here.

I am a strong candidate for keyhole, and always assumed I'd go with this -- but two factors are making me lean toward double incision, and I'd really appreciate people's thoughts. Especially if there is anyone who has had keyhole with Brownstein and would be alright sharing pictures, that would be extremely appreciated.

1) I'm very very slim, and although my shoulders are broad, my chest is small. I'd like to have a male-contoured chest. I know working out helps with this, and I've started doing that this year (been on T for a year). I'm concerned that keyhole leaves the areola large, and perhaps too much in the 'middle' of each side of my chest, rather than slightly off center, toward the left and right. The reason I'm more concerned is that, in having a small chest, I feel like the size of the areola, as well as possibly their position, would bother me more than if my chest was larger (i.e. they wouldn't look as big).

As my chest is pretty much invisible (never worn binder), the only thing that makes me uncomfortable are my nipples (as well as going shirtless. Maybe if I worked out a lot, that wouldn't be a problem...not sure, and don't want to wait that long). So if after going through a procedure like surgery/aftercare, I don't want to still be left feeling like my nipples are too big...even though Brownstein said he can reduce my nipple size, just not the areola, I'm just not sure. I haven't seen any keyhole pics he's done, except one that's on transbucket, and the nipple size is larger than I'd like (and that's after a revision).

2) I live in California, which makes Brownstein the easiest choice. I assumed I'd go with him, but have been hearing of Medalie and Fischer. I lean toward Medalie, as I like the pictures of his clients the best (again, transbucket), although Fischer's are fine too, he's just closer and I liked the youtube presentation he did, it makes me feel better about going to someone so far, to at least see them.

Has anyone who has been a keyhole candidate gone with DI? Is there anyone who has done keyhole with Brownstein that would be okay sharing pictures?

I'm alright without getting pics of DI, because there are plenty of those out there, and I feel perfectly comfortable with Brownstein if I do a DI....it's keyhole that's got me confused who to go with.

Thanks a lot for your thoughts and time.

post-op swelling worry [Jun. 9th, 2011|08:31 pm]

i had keyhole top surgery with dr fischer on tues and then had a hematoma aspirated on wed. today things are seemingly ok with my chest but i have a very swollen love handle (on the side that the hematoma was on). i spoke with the nurse about it and she said it was normal but i am worried about it as their office has seemed disorganized and haphazard and i barely got the words out before she told me it was fine and hung up. i hope i'm worried for nothing but their office has not inspired confidence and i don't understand why my side is swollen and tender and i don't want to be ignoring something that i should be seeking medical help for. if anyone else has had this happen or has any information on such an occurrence, i would really appreciate hearing about it.

aftercare question [Apr. 26th, 2010|12:03 pm]

i had double incision with dr. fischer on april 20th. my drains will be taken out tomorrow, which i'm really looking forward to. everything has gone amazingly well so far.
i called her office today to double check on what i'm supposed to do after my drains are removed, specifically about nipple care. to my surprise, bettye said that after i take a shower and remove the foam i don't do anything other than put maxi pads on it and wear the compression vest.
i remember her saying to leave the tape until it comes off on its own, but i find it really hard to believe that i don't do anything else for the nipples. what kind of nipple aftercare did you do or recommend? is it common to just leave it alone? just double checking trying to ward off my nipple loss paranoia, thanks guys!

Benefits of scheduling a consult a month or two before surgery [Nov. 8th, 2009|11:35 pm]

Hey all,

I'm in the midst of scheduling a consult/top surgery with Dr. Fischer.  Since I live in Vermont my parents and I were thinking of scheduling the consult for the day before my surgery.  My question is for those of you that opted to do the same did you feel this negatively impacted your experience/wish you had scheduled your consult more than a day before your surgery?

Another piece of the puzzle for me is that when I want to have my surgery I'll still be 17. I know Fischer has operated on people younger than 18 before, but it seems to me (from my experiences with testosterone) that the younger you are the more hoops you have to jump through.  Is Fischer the same way in that I should probably meet with her way before the surgery?  I know I'm being a little paranoid about this. I just don't want to go all the way down there to find out she wants me to go to an additional therapist, get another letter, etc.

I've tried sending an e-mail to the office to ask just this, but all I got back was a standard reply.

consultation for top surgery [Oct. 26th, 2009|11:30 am]

I couldn't find anything in the tags, so I feel like this might be silly, but ...

I just made an appointment for a consultation with Dr. Fischer (Nov. 13th), and what should I expect at the consultation? I've never had surgery beyond my wisdom teeth and I don't really remember anything about that, so I'm just curious and want to be sort of prepared for things.

Thanks!

swelling anxiety post keyhole [Aug. 2nd, 2009|06:43 pm]

hi everyone,

i'm 6.5 weeks post-op keyhole with fischer & have swelling under my areolas and around them that makes me look like i have little boobs now... i know that "swelling is normal for months after surgery" but i still get a little freaked out that it won't go away. it seems like the more active i am, the more they get bigger. i'm concerned that my skin will eventually sag from the swelling. fischer's office (bettye) told me i should wear the vest on/off until the swelling goes away. can anyone share their related experience?

is there anything that helps? anything i can do?

thanks!

Chest Surgery Questions - Sensation Comparison [Oct. 27th, 2008|08:58 pm]

[mood |soresore]

Hey guys. I made a post concerning retention of touch sensation as well as erotic sensation and chest surgery some months ago. Slowly narrowing it down. I would like to ask anyone who has had experiences with these surgeons a couple questions:

________________________

Brownstein:

Double Incision:
- When was your surgery/what chest size were you (small, med, large)?
- What types of sensation have you retained and how much?
- Was the nipple left attached to a pedicle?
- Were you actual nipples (no the areolas) large, and did you have them resized? What has this affected?
* additional information, if any would be helpful.

Fischer:

Double Incision:
- When was your surgery/what chest size were you (small, med, large)?
- What types of sensation have you retained, and how much?
- Was the nipple attached to a pedicle?
- Were you actual nipples (no the areolas) large, and did you have them resized? What has this affected?
* additional information, if any would be helpful.

Peri:
- When was your surgery/what chest size were you (small, small med, large med)?
- What types of sensation have you retained, and how much?
- Were your nipples resized and has that seemed to affect anything regarding sensation?
- Were you actual nipples (no the areolas) large, and did you have them resized? What has this affected?
* additional information, if any would be helpful.

________________________

Steinwald: (I would really like to collect more information on Steinwald)

Double Incision/Inverted T procedure:
- When was your surgery/what chest size were you (small, med, large)?
- Did you have the inverted T procedure?
- Were you actual nipples (no the areolas) large, and did you have them resized? What has this affected?
- What types of sensation have you retained and how much?
- How is the scarring?
* additional information, if any would be helpful.

________________________

GENERAL:

- My size is about a medium B, (said to be a bit too big for a peri by Fischer but I could still try if I'm willing) so I'm especially interested in that range.
- Compare and contrast surgeons if you've been to more than one (for surgery, with a friend, etc.)
- Preferences for double incision, inverted T, peri, and why
* additional information, if it would be helpful.
