modifying a jockstrap to hold a packy

I finally figured out my personal solution to packing, I posted this on my personal livejournal, but I figured I'd share this here as well.

Background story: I've never found a comfortable and easy way to pack. I need something that allows the packer to stay in place, doesn't cause it to have to touch my skin, and doesn't make the packer stick out too much (making me look like I have a boner all day).
A while ago, I came across a link that showed how to modify a jockstrap into a packing holder. I think the website I found it on has now taken it down (or their website is under construction or something), but I found another copy of the directions from an archived version of this transguy's website (the guy who originally posted the directions). I don't want to post the link here, because he deleted his website for a reason (i.e. he probably doesn't want people to see it), and it's just by luck that I've found the archived version of it. So I tried to recreate his directions, with my own additions.

The original directions from this guy's website are in italics.

1. Buy a jock strap. I got mine from amazon.com. Athletic stores also work well, but you'll have less selection.

2. Use a seam ripper or pocket knife to remove the seam that holds the elastic leg straps to the bottom of the pouch. I used a pair of sharp scissors.

3. Remove the leg straps from the bottom of the pouch only, leaving them attached at the waistband. Don't cut the fabric or elastic when removing the leg straps, only the seam (it will prevent raveling).

4. Cut leg bands in half in the middle (you know where the middle is because that's where you removed it from the pouch)

5. Fold the pouch the other way, so it makes sort of a tent; that's where your dick will sit.

6. Set your packy in there to see how high you need to go; I find that bringing the tip of the pouch about 1 inch from the waistband is perfect. Mine is about an inch from the waistband as well.

7. Bring the sides of the pouch up and sew them there. This is where having a sewing machine will make your life easier, but if you don't have one, snaps work awesome. Just make sure you stitch them on really well, and double your thread up.

8. Sew the leg straps to the sides of the pouch; again, having a sewing machine makes this fast, but just hand sew it if not. Make sure to sew it well, doubling your thread and going over it a couple times.

9. Put a snap up top; make sure you don't sew the top close, you need to put your dick in and out of here. finding thread was hard enough, so snaps definitely weren't happening...and it worked fine without them. I sewed the top up, even though he said not to, because if you don't have snaps, you need something to hold it together at the top part.

This is where I sewed the straps (red = sewed area, purple = open area/packy entrance):

I sewed the leg straps through both layers of fabric, so that there was only a little bit of room on both sides of the pouch that were open (to put the packy in). I was a little bit worried that it'd be hard to get the packy in, but packies squish and it doesn't pop out at all.

10. Put your dick on and go! This works great in boxers or briefs or commando. Guys wear jock straps, so it won't look weird if someone sees it. Position it so the top of the packy is right in front and low on your pubic bone (like right where you "come together," if you know what I mean) Don't wear it higher up on your pubic hair, because that's not where dicks sprout out of.

Finished product:

wearing a pair of PJ pants

A friend told me that he did the same as me with the pouch, but just cut the leg straps off. This is the same function as a cocksock, I believe, and I bought a cocksock and it pissed me off because it would flop everywhere (or mostly it had this tendency to turn to the side so that the shaft of the packy was always rubbing my junk). I love the leg straps because it keeps it all nestled down nicely, and it doesn't move around.
And let me just say, my sewing job was not very pretty. But black thread + black fabric means whatever sewing faux pas I committed is nicely camoflagued. If you are sewing-stunted like I am, if you can get someone with a sewing machine or some person you know to sew it for you, you'll be in luck. But I wasn't about to ask anyone to sew a jockstrap for me, so my lame sewing skills had to suffice. We'll see if it holds together over time.

[4/22/09 edit: this lasted me about a year of constant usage, and another year of casual usage. I've since made two more. Also, I've been able to manage to use a STP while packing, just by pulling it up and shoving the STP device below the package. I use a travelmate, though, so some of the bulkier STP devices might not work. Another note - I recently bought a 4 inch goodvibes packer, which does not fit into this modified jock, so you'll have to stick with the 3 inch packers.]

I should also add that I also bought another jockstrap for $5 at a local sports store, just so I can have another one for when the first one needs washing (although I haven't modified it yet...still need to track down white thread). It's not as nice, nor as hot as my black one, but yeah, you don't always have to cough over $20 online.

Just curious, is that a boys' or a mens' jockstrap (I don't know if they even make them for boys, but I have to buy my briefs in the boys section since I'm kinda small, so I wondered) ?

men's small. it fits me really well, considering I usually don't fit into men's smalls (I'm 5'4", 110 lbs, and have a 26-28 inch wasit...just fyi).

Evin Two questions....1) how much does it move around when you play sports? 2) Have you tried it out dancing yet, and how much does it move then? Im just curious cause these are my two favorite activities! Thanks

um, haven't played too many sports recently, but I did wear it snowboarding, and it was fine. I bike a lot, though, and haven't tried riding while wearing it yet, although I might experiment with that.
and by dancing, do you mean like dancing at a club? because that's the only kind of dancing i've ever done. but yeah, the packy works well for that.

Yeah I was talking about the dancing at the club. I get really nervous cause when straight girls try to dance with me that its going to move around (actually I havent worn one out clubbing for this reason). So with someone grinding on you it still stays in place with the jockstrap? Thanks dude.

very instructional. (:
i did something like this with the front pouch of an old pair of briefs--bought some elastic and added leg straps.

you can also sew a cover onto the back of the pouch to seal it off -- i've done this with a number of run/swim jocks (which have narrower waistbands than the regular jocks). excellent method.

that jock strap is so gay.

the cock sock from thetransitionalmale.com website is available with leg straps. however, I think your method would be cheaper.

also, I think you can get snaps at walmart (ick) or target.

but good job! that came out really nicely.

no snaps at walmart

they do not carry them anymore, so try a fabric store or crafts.....too many walmarts think they should close.

"that jock strap is so gay"

What do you mean? We have a-lot of Gay identified persons in this community and I would hope you would modify this statement by removing it. We all have enough disparities and haters just being who we are, we do not need to be doing that to ourselves. Thank- you.

1) Would it be okay to put this up on the FTM Passing Tips site (http://geocities.com/ftmpass/passing.html#packing)?

2) If "yes" to the above, any chance this could be unlocked so more people could see it?

Don't know if you'll get this reply, but yeah, that's fine. And I can unlock this post.

Thanks for sharing these instructions! I was inspired to go out and buy a jockstrap and have a go at modding it. It didn't work out quite like these as the pouch was too short to fold back, but with a little bit of tweaking I've made it work. It was a useful starting point though!
